I Quit Social Media to Improve My Confidence – This is What Happened

I just completed a seven-day social media fast, and all I can think is: Why didn’t I do this sooner?

The last seven days have been a combination of productivity, anxiety, and self-care. While I quit social media to improve my confidence, I have gotten so much more out of it than just that. I can go on and on about all the things I’ve learned in the last few days, but I’ll cut to the chase and share with you my top three takeaways.

If you’ve ever considered doing a social media detox, I highly recommend it. Whether a day, a week, or a month. Unplugging and recharging does wonders for your mind and body. Below are my top three takeaways from my seven-day social media fast.

Boosted Productivity

I had a feeling that unplugging for a week would improve my productivity, but I could have never imagined the difference it’s made. Collectively, I’ve had the most productive week ever. From my morning routines to daily to-dos, I got so much done.

It’s been proven that crossing things off your to-do list raises dopamine levels, and I definitely felt the impact. Hooray for boosts of confidence.

Healthier Celebration

One of the main reasons why I decided to join the seven-day social media challenge was to avoid comparing my life and accomplishments to those of others. I realized that I had created a bad habit of jumping on social media to distract my mind, only to find myself more discouraged than I felt going in. Doing a social media cleanse helped me avoid that.

By unplugging for an entire week, I allowed myself to celebrate my own accomplishments and only compared myself to the person I was yesterday.

Increased self-discipline

I broke two records during my detox. I meditated for eight consecutive days. Clearing my mind allowed me to really understand why I was doing the social media fast and put me in a mindset that would allow me to get a clear understanding of what my plan would be moving forward. I also attended a yoga or barre class for five consecutive days, a new personal record. Yoga also allows me to clear my mind while pushing my body to new limits.

Talk about improving self-confidence.
