How I Deal with Slow Sales Seasons While Reselling on Poshmark

There’s nothing more soul-crushing to a reseller than a season of slow sales. Sure, it happens in every business, but the reselling world is a whole other monster. If you haven’t experienced it yet, brace yourself, it’ll happen sooner or later.

I’ve encountered several slow sale seasons since I started reselling in 2018. Usually, it’s during the summer months when people just aren’t shopping as much as they are during other seasons. For me, it can even be during the holidays when people are more likely to shop from major retailers because of crazy sales and discounts.

No matter the time or reason, there are things you can do to overcome the hurdle. Below are five things I do to deal with a slow sales season when selling on Poshmark.

Reevaluate my strategy

It’s easy to get carried away with old habits when things are going great. It’s when things go downhill that we stop to revisit our game plan. If you’re going through a slow season, I would highly recommend reevaluating your strategy.

I ask myself:

·      What are my goals with reselling?

·      In what areas can I improve?

·      What changes do I need to make more sales?

While you might not have all the answers and/or solutions to a slow sales season, you’ll have more clarity around your purpose and goals when reselling.

Edit stale listings

One of my least favorite parts of the reselling process is photographing. By the same token, it’s probably one of the factors that’s cost me the most sales. Bad pictures often translate to bad sales. Fortunately, you can always edit old listings on Poshmark.

While I haven’t taken the time to relist every old item in my inventory, I do take the time during slow seasons to make a few tweaks and edits to stale listings. A quick edit to the title, description, or cover photo can often lead to a sale soon after updating.

List frequently

There’s been a lot of talk about Poshmark’s algorithm over the last few years. While some consider it a myth, others are adamant that your habits on the app have a lot to do with your closet’s visibility. Regularly sharing, accepting offers, and listing new items has been proven to help you be seen by more buyers on the app.

Some veteran resellers recommend listing every single day if possible. Poshmark’s new draft feature makes it easy to draft in advance and publish the listing on a later day.

Source at lower costs

Keeping your margins low is a great way to lose the attachment to your inventory. Accepting a low offer on an item you paid $50 for may prove harder to do than accepting that same offer for something you paid $1 for. I understand that some resellers have a specific style and aesthetic they’re trying to upkeep, but there are many ways of sourcing items at low prices.

·      Goodwill Clearance Center ($1.39/lb.)

·      Goodwill Dollar Days

·      Thrift Store Sale Days

·      Garage Sales

Source unique items

I’m guilty of sourcing basic items simply based on the price. Since I source primarily at the Goodwill Clearance Center, I can get carried away with the thrill and excitement of finding cool brands amidst a pile of worn-out t-shirts. This is why sometimes my closet will have random J Crew, PINK, and Ann Taylor tops that just won’t sell.

The simplest solution to consistent sales on Poshmark is selling items buyers want. Whether that unique, trendy, or designer items, as long as you sell items customers want, you’ll make the sale.
